Description

This project is proudly match funded by Community Sector Banking as part of the Social Investment Grants Program up to $50,000.

HoMie, The Ladder Foundation and Cotton On are teaming up to provide a structured pathway out of homelessness for young people. The pilot will run for 12 months, and will see six young people experiencing homelessness housed by Ladder, trained as retail workers by HoMie and employed by Cotton On upon successful graduation.

Social Impact

HoMie provides brand-new clothing, training and job opportunities to people experiencing homelessness.

Clothing is distributed to the homeless community during monthly VIP Shopping Days in HoMie. On these days, up to 30 people experiencing homelessness are invited through a partnered service to be our VIP customers, and receive five free items of brand-new clothing to choose at their own discretion, grooming, food, coffee and a friendly chat with our team of staff and volunteers. Apart from providing clothing, HoMie VIP Shopping Days aim to increase feelings of social connectedness, and also bring our VIP's into contact with the HoMie support network.

Since its inception last year, HoMie has hosted 9 VIP Days and distributed approximately 1200 items of brand-new clothing to over 250+ people experiencing homelessness.

Additionally, HoMie has individually trained and employed three young people experiencing homelessness as retail workers.

Track Record

Hayley was initially a VIP Day recipient of HoMie. After the experience, we provided her with training opportunities in our retail environment. Now, she is a casual staff member in our Brunswick St store.

Recently, we asked Hayley for some feedback about the impact that HoMie was having on her life. Her words are as follows: “HoMie has helped me to step out into the world. They have made me feel like I belong and can contribute to society. This morning, I came in and opened the shop up- two years ago I was in the gutter. It’s massive being trusted and being given the the opportunity to learn.”

MASSIVE thanks to the legends from VanderAa (https://www.facebook.com/vanderaafanpage/?fref=ts#) for kicking off our campaign with $900 pledged (and match-funded) through proceeds raised from the official launch of their new EP Red Hot Go at Allpress held on the 10th of Sept. Killer work lads!
